Father's Day, Single Moms, and Absent Dads

::takes deep breath::

I believe Father's Day is for men who are good, great, awesome, etc. Men who are fathers or father figures to another human being. I don't think deadbeat and absent fathers should even be brought up on Father's Day. I don't think single moms should be brought up on Father's Day, they deserve and should receive their admiration on  Mother's Day. I don't believe good men should be overshadowed on this day.

There is huge discussion on this topic happening on all my social media feeds today. What do you think? Who is Father's Day for?

To me it is for this man:

My grandfather. The number one man in my life. Raised me. Supported me. Currently works harder than anyone I know every day taking care of my grandmother. He deserves Father's Day. Men like him, who've been exemplary men in other people's lives deserve all the recognition on Father's Day.

  1. Happy Father's Day to your grandpa! I spent the morning with my dad. Love him to pieces for single parenting me.

  3. With you on this. Do not dig the downers that bring up their non-existent dads or overpraise their single moms and insult others' dads.

    Today definitely was about my dad. Corny jokes and all.

  4. I agree with you. I feel like dads, &/or great father-figures, are under-appreciated in society. They deserve their day without having to contend with talk of absent fathers and moms who do "dad's work" as well as moms.

  6. I completely agree with you. Mothers are considered mothers for a reason, and the same is true for fathers. Just because the father is absent in the home doesn't mean that the mother takes on the role of both parents. She is still THE mother. There are certain things only a father can do, that mothers can not. Certain things that they can teach, express, and give to children that mothers just can't.
