I’ve been searching for a “thing.” A pastime or hobby that’s all my own. A Facebook group I’m a part of recently started a book club and I thought that would be a great idea to give me something to do that’s not connected to Hubs or BabyCakes. So I excitedly bought the book. Then I thought: When in the world am I going to have time to read? I have a job, a husband, a home, a daughter, and a theater company. When was I going to read?!
I’ve found that I can make time for reading. It doesn’t look like it used to, snuggling up with a book for as long as I want to, but I can make it happen.
How to make time to read when you don’t have time:
The first thing that is imperative to this for me is having the Kindle app on my smartphone. We always have our phones with us. It’s much easier to read on something you always have than from a physical book, or even an actual Kindle, that you have to remember to carry around. I also always buy the accompanying audio book when I buy my kindle books on Amazon. The app lets you transition seamlessly from reading your book to listening to your book, and back again.Read, don’t scroll
Read on your commute
Read While You Cook
Listen during chores
Incorporate into self-care
Make time solely for you a priority, and if you’d like time to spend that time reading I hope these tips help!
Yes, yes, YES. These are all so true and when you think about it...we actually DO have the time to read. More times than not, we're doing mindless things and can spend that time reading a book. Plus, I think a lot of times we think we need to carve out a good 20 minutes or something. Nope, even a quick 5 minute read is better than nothing. Excellent tips!

DeleteGreat post! I love to read, but since I am a mom of 3 it's no longer easy. Audiobooks are awesome for a car drive and cooking time. Also I read a lot to my kiddos and I found out that when they are really tired they don't care what I read to them that much. So sometimes I chose my books for a late bedtime story, beacause they don't listen anyway, they just want to be with mommy :)
ReplyDeleteOh that's a great idea, reading your own books at story time!
DeleteI like how you count reading a book as a luxurious "me time" treat my wee boy is nearly 6 months and I'm learning that my personal time is very limited now! I love all forms of book readimg promotion as I am an Independent author with 2 full length novels out there waiting to be discovered. It gives me hope that we are switching off technology for a bit of book escapism. Its good for the soul!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. It's so good to be able to block everything else out and get involved in a story. We need that escape!
DeleteThis is a wonderful post! I am a book addict! The libby app has saved me from bombing my reading challenge. I do audio on and off through out the day and try to squeeze in my paper books at bedtime!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! You have to get it in where you can!
