Introducing Monica Leonelle, author of "Socialpunk"

I was given the great pleasure to have a quick interview with author Monica Leonelle, about her newest project, "Socialpunk." Here is the official Socialpunk blurb:

Ima would give anything to escape The Dome and learn what’s beyond its barriers, but the Chicago government has kept all its citizens on lockdown ever since the Scorched Years left most of the world a desert wasteland. When a mysterious group of hooded figures enters the city unexpectedly, Ima uncovers a plot to destroy The Dome and is given the choice between escaping to a new, dangerous city or staying behind and fighting a battle she can never win.

LaNeshe: If you had to give Socialpunk a specific genre, what genre would you put it in?

Monica: Socialpunk is a cyberpunk, which is a subgenre of science fiction that focuses on high-technology paired with low quality of life. While I think the Socialpunk's world has a lot of sexiness to it, they do live in a world that is controlled by large companies rather than the government. The companies own them. It would be like if Mark Zuckerburg were both president and grand dictator of the United States.

LaNeshe: What inspired you to write Socialpunk?

Monica:  Socialpunk is inspired by Chicago winters, technology and digital media, and the Terminator series.

LaNeshe: Please tell us in one sentence why we should read Socialpunk.

Monica: Socialpunk is a quick read and a page turner, perfect for reluctant readers or for anyone who wants to be entertained for a few hours.

LaNeshe: What motivated you to start writing?

Monica:  I've been writing forever! I write a ton almost every day, as it turns out. Writing is the way I express myself, so I just fell into it naturally.

LaNeshe: Just for fun, what are your top 3 favorite TV shows?

Monica: At the moment: Revenge, The Vampire Diaries, and Game of Thrones. But I have about a million shows I watch. Smallville is one of my favorite shows of all time.
