Take a Break

Take a break.

I have been working non-stop. Between my 9-5, blog work, holding down the fort while my husband recovered from an appendectomy, and about three other projects, I've been working a lot. I'd begun to settle in to a place where I felt like working all the time was just how life had to be.

This weekend my mom and her husband came to visit so I did no work for two complete days. It was glorious. We had fun, we played games, we ate, we drank, we shopped. I spent a lot more time just looking at and engaging with my daughter. I realized there has not been enough quality time between Hubs and I.

I'm so happy they visited. They allowed me to take a break. They allowed me to be happy from just living life where for the past few weeks my happiness has mainly been derived from crossing things off my to-do list.

As I settle back into routine I'm trying to figure out a way to give myself more completely work free time. Perhaps that's a no work on Saturdays policy, I'm not sure yet. What I do know is that I want more days like this weekend. More carefree and fun times. More time away from my phone and computer. More of the time that really matters.

When is the last time you took a break?

  1. I know what you mean, I found it especially hard when my kids where younger. Now that my youngest is a teen and my oldest is grown I have more time, but still have to spend it wisely. Otherwise I'll find myself spending a whole lot of time doing nothing.

  2. It's always such a jarring realization, isn't it, that you haven't been doing enough for yourself? I'm glad you got in some quality time with the family. I've been trying to do the same!

  3. First of all - AMEN. Second of all - Yes! I feel like I'm always "busy" - but what matters most is the state of our relationships - not the state of our house's cleanliness, etc. I was meant to read this. Thank you so much LaNeshe! I hope you have more glorious moments this week!!

  4. YES! I agree, sometimes all the busy gets in the way. I wish there was an easy way to get balance! Hope you have more of those glorious days! It's so hard making ourselves a priority, but we have to!

  5. Last month my sister got married, on a Tuesday, so I had to use vacation time to attend. After I got home I spent a few days doing nothing aside from reading and watching way too much Netflix. It was great.
