The thing about mistakes

The thing about mistakes is that the worst part isn't the actual mistake. We all make mistakes but it is what happens after the mistake that really counts.

Acknowledge the mistake. If you can't admit you were wrong when you know inside you are wrong this makes the mistake deeper than it needs to be. You'll never get over it and move on if you don't admit fault.

Don't repeat the mistake. Making the same mistake 3, 4, or 5 times just makes you insane. Only a crazy person does the same thing over and over hoping for a different result.

This is especially true when it comes to internal mistakes, bad decisions that no one else knows about. It is often the hardest to forgive ourselves.

  1. Admitting to yourself that you are wrong can be hard. I think we all suffer from closet perfectionism. Most of the time i still beat myself up even when I admit to myself and others that I'm wrong.

  2. @CC - yea, I think we are definitely harder on ourselves than we are on other people.

  3. Making mistakes is part of the Human effect, so of course we are going to slip up from time to time and have a few "face palm" moments, but like you said, what counts is how we rebound from them. Mistakes are supposed to be learning experiences, if you keep making the same mistake you obviously aren't using your experiences as self teaching points. Love this post!

  4. @Claire - definitely, you aren't learning if you keep doing the same thing over and over. Thanks :-)
