Throwback Thursday: Places Where Men Are Always Right

I was reading some posts from my old Xanga blog this morning and found I had some pretty good stuff way back in the day in 2008 lol. In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, I think on Thursdays I will re-post some old posts here.

Places Where Men Are Always Right
Originally written June 9, 2009

Well, I suppose the true title should be "Places where men always think they are right." Now, you know I try hard not to generalize groups of people, so maybe this should be titled "Places where men that I know personally think they are always right." Ok, lets go with that one.

You see that man? He looks happy right? He will stay happy, as long as you don't tell him that the hot dogs are over cooked, or that the hamburgers are under cooked, or that the coals are not hot enough.

You see that face? That is the face of a man who has just been told he is going the wrong way. You don't want to see this man. Pass the same tree 5 times in the last hour? You can mention it, but then you will get this face lol

This photo is obviously photoshopped because men work on the car alone, or with another man, but definitely not with a woman. She better just be holding his tools and not telling him what to do. All men don't have to know how to fix cars, they just think they have to know how to fix cars, thus they must be right in their car fixer-upering.

Men who dare to tackle the kitchen as one of their domains feel that just for the bravery of stepping into a "female dominated" area of the home, what they say should go. You can have a smiling man with a knife cutting cucumbers just like this, as long as you don't mention his lack of dish-washing skills or that the shrimp isn't cleaned properly.

In what places are the men in your life always right?

Eboost Review

I received a sample of Eboost complimentary to try out via Influenster. I'm no novice to the Eboost packets, I buy probably a box a year of them around this time of year (cold season). The flavor I received was Natural Energy in Pink Lemonade. This was my first time trying this flavor and I give it a 7 out of 10. Their orange flavor is definitely my preferred flavor. The pink lemonade isn't horrible, but these things will never taste like juice lol. The packaging says it requires 12 ounces of water. I'd prefer less. Less water means I can drink it faster and encounter the not bad but not exactly pleasant taste for a shorter duration of time.

While I do take a daily vitamin, when there are times when I feel like a cold is trying to catch me or there are a lot of people with colds around me I take supplements like this. What I'm looking for in a supplement for this season is vitamin C and Zinc, which I know help my body resist and fight colds. The Eboost has 1,667% daily value of vitamin C and 100% daily value of zinc. That gets two thumbs up from me.

What's does your blog say about you?

I was over on the lovely ChantelC's blog and she shared Typealyzer, a personality test based on your blog. You simply enter your URL and it gives you your personality type based on it. The results I got were very accurate. My personality description is below, I've bolded the parts that really ring true for me.

Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+ Review

I received the Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+ complimentary to try out via Influenster
I've shared with you all before my staple oatmeal recipe. While I'd love to be able to whip up my oatmeal in the morning before leaving home, there are days where I sleep late or just don't have time, and being able to have a quick convenient solution at work is excellent, which is where the Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+ cups come in handy. I am a Quaker brand loyalist, I'll admit it. When I make my oatmeal at home I'm using Quaker plain old fashioned oats, so I'm not surprised that I enjoyed the Real Medleys product.

The flavor I received was Peach Almond, definitely not a flavor I would have picked (I generally only add raisins or apples to my homemade oatmeal), but it was really good. The ingredients are really good, the first two were whole grain rolled oats and peaches, which makes me happy. It was not very sweet tasting at all, which I liked.

The cooking is simple, you can microwave it right in the cup it comes in. I did have to microwave it longer than the directions indicated to get the thicker consistency I like in my oatmeal, so if you also like a thicker oatmeal I'd suggest using less water than suggested, or cooking longer. You can grab these cups for $1.79 each at your local grocery store!

My Happy Birthday from Google

I'm a fan of the Google doodles. I'm always excited to see a cool one, and I look forward to seeing what they do for holidays and special occasions. So this morning, I logged on to Google.com and imagine my surprise when I saw a birthday themed Google doodle! I thought "oh that is so cool, a birthday themed Google doodle and it happens to be my birthday, I wonder whose birthday they are celebrating." My surprise doubled when I hovered over the Google doodle and it said "Happy Birthday LaNeshe!" Oooh Google, you win again :-)

In other birthday news, I am 27 years old today, and feeling very blessed to be given another year of life. Hubs took me to Melting Pot yesterday (I'd write a review, but it was just as fabulous as it was last year. I will just reiterate that it is a pricey place, but totally worth it for a special occasion), and he got me a Heutiful Hair Steam (a natural hair girls dream lol).

Happy Monday. Happy Birthday. XOXO

What Have You Done Today?

I'm trying to think of a system to remind myself and keep checks and balances on getting things accomplished in all areas of my life outside of my "9-5" job and my home, since those things are always at the forefront. I think I've decided on a series of questions that I'll likely print out and post in my boudoir.

What have you done today for your health?
-Had a green smoothie?
-Worked out?

What have you done today for your self?
-Painted your nails?
-Read a book?

What have you done today for your blog?
-Wrote a post?
-Checked for sponsorship opportunities?

What have you done today for your acting career?
-Checked castings?
-Worked on a monologue?

What have YOU done today?

HPNOTIQ Primp and Prep: Take Your Next Girls Night Out to a New Level

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hpnotiq. All opinions are 100% mine.

There is something magical about getting ready to go out with all the girls together. Trying on different outfits, swapping make-up, having some pre-outting drinks...it's a fun and memorable time. When my friends and I were in college and all lived with each other or near each other, this happened more often. Nowadays we don't get too many occasions to get ready all together, but when we do, it's awesome.

hair down music up! the Hpnotiq Primp & Prep site is a nice companion to the getting ready ritual. It's got cocktail recipes, beauty tips, music and more.

I'm a sucker for drinks with funky names and funky colors, and I found plenty of fun recipes while browsing around the site.

Above is the "Blue Breeze"

  • 2 parts Hpnotiq
  • 1 part Premium Coconut Rum
  • Splash of Pineapple Juice

The site is really easy to navigate. For your next girl's night or just to pass the time until your next outing check out the blog posts which all fall into one of six categories: Beauty, Fashion, Celebs, Guys, Cocktails and LOL.

There is also a fun "Customize Your Photo" widget, which essentially is like a photo booth you can upload a picture too and jazz it up with their fonts and photo treatments.

You must be 21 years or older to drink alcoholic beverages, and as always, please remember to drink responsibly.

In this edition of YouTube Tuesday, playwright Tony Kushner sums up exactly why I feel that even in this digital age, live theater is still important, entertaining, and relevant.

A Show Of Brilliance: Total Blackout

I have found a genius of a show. Total Blackout is likely one of my new favorite shows. I know, I know that sounds crazy, but if you haven't watched it, you can't understand the novelty. Hubs and I have watched every episode that has aired thus far.

The premise of this Syfy show is it's a game show where contestants have to complete tasks in total darkness. These tasks include identifying smells, guessing weights, and guessing what objects/animals are. It is so entertaining to watch. People get in the dark and FREAK OUT, sometimes over things as harmless as a brush, or a teddy bear. What happens in the dark is their minds go wild, and they think of the worst.

The show is genius because not only is it entertaining, but it's got to be crazy cheap to produce. All they really need is their warehouse, and their lovely host, Jaleel White of Steve Urkel fame. Check out the trailer:

Have you watched Total Blackout? Do you love it like me?

The "box of the month" for your Man

I love getting packages, who doesn't? I was subscribed to Birchbox, then switched to Ipsy/My Glam. If you aren't familiar those are beauty box subscriptions. For $10 a month you get a box of random beauty products delivered to your door every month. I'm also a member of Influenster, which sends complimentary products every few months for review purposes. I love it. I enjoy getting surprise packages.

When Christmas rolled around I was trying to figure out how to give my husband that same type of surprise package joy I get every month. There are male equivalents to beauty boxes, but my guy isn't much of a "products" kind of man. What he IS into is T-shirts. Enter BustedTees.com Shirt of the Month club. You can buy a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription, and each month you get to pick a T-shirt that they send you. Their selection is right up his alley - read: sci-fi and gamer related - so it was PERFECT.

He got his first of three t-shirt last week, and he was very happy. The name of this T is "Time Machines"

P.S.- Bonus points to anyone who can name some of the time machines pictured on the shirt.
