Is this my blog or Myspace?

Back in the days of Myspace I took surveys ALL.THE.TIME. I enjoyed the opportunity to tell people something about me that they might not know. I saw this survey over on ChickPool's blog and decided I'd fill it out.

Who was your favorite celebrity as a child? Michael Jackson. Still my favorite. Probably will be my favorite forever.

What type of pets do you have? ::bursts into tears::

What is your favorite color? Purple.

What is most memorable about your high school years? Performing with pep squad, being in school plays and shows.

What word describes you best? Quirky.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Successfully living alone.

What drives you every day? My desire to do better, do more, see more, have more..etc.

What is your favorite food? Potatoes, all kinds of potatoes.

Where do you want to retire? Somewhere that isn't a city, that has water, and sand.

What is your business goal this year? Create a successful website for the non-profit I work for. Increase my blog traffic. Be cast in Orange is the New Black and/or a prominent theater show in Philly.

Where do you like to vacation? Caribbean cruises.

Who do you admire? People able to choose healthy lifestyles over convenience and french fries.

What is your mission?  To be an arts leader in Philadelphia, and a successful blogger, and to one day start a family.

If you were invisible, where would you go? I honestly don't know!

What traits in others are you attracted to? Being hardworking, follow-through, being savvy, strength.

What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you? Hubs is constantly showing my kindness.

How do you want to be remembered? Kind, fun, happy, strong, inspiring.

What would you do with a million dollars? Pay off all my bills. Donate to the non-profit I work for. Find my grandmother the best doctors available. Fix up my grandparents house. Hire a live in aid for my grandparents. Buy my husband some absurdly expensive tech gadget that he'll only use for like a year.

If you were on an island, who would you want to be with? Why? Hubs of course. We always plan for zombie apocalypses so I think we'd do good on an island.

You have a 10 minute speech to give at a high school, what is it about? The importance of being yourself.

Childhood vs. Adulthood

Often adults lament about the responsibility of adulthood. We encourage children to enjoy their youth, and warn them that they shouldn't want to grow up so fast. While there are things I do miss about childhood, I enjoy my life and being an adult.

I miss...
Not having bills
Not having monthly menstruation
My grandmother's cooking*
Seeing my childhood home as a place of relaxation*
Not worrying about what I eat
Not having loved ones who are no longer alive

I enjoy...
Being able to buy what I want
Having drinks with friends
"Adult bedroom cardio" ;-)
Unlimited or monitored internet access
Being able to plan and go on trips when I want
Being able to buy meaningful presents for others
Complete control of my daily activities
Having long histories and memories with family and friends

*These things are more a result of my grandma's current state of health than of me growing older. But I guess aging of our elders is also a part of growing older.

What do you miss about childhood?
What do you enjoy about adulthood?

Mary Kay Products Review

I received the following Mary Kay products complimentary via the Influenster program to try out.

True Dimensions™  Lip Stick in Pink Cherie ($18.00)

I like this lipstick. It feels nice on my lips, very moisturizing, and a cute light pink color. I would probably call this a colored lip-gloss rather than a lipstick. I love it, but I don't think it covers the lips in the way I expect a lipstick to. The packaging on the True Dimensions lipsticks is so chic, I love it. I also couldn't figure out how to open it when I first got it! You have to push down on the top, then the lipstick comes out of the bottom, rather than pulling the cap off.

Mary Kay® Lash Love Lengthening Mascara (I ♥ Black; $15.00) and Mary Kay® Lash Primer ($15.00)

These two products worked together to give me really defined and pronounced lashes. I loved it. This is the first time I've ever used an eyelash primer. The first time I used the duo I think I waited too long to apply the mascara after the primer, because the mascara wouldn't really stick to my lashes. The second time around I applied the mascara right after the primer and it worked great.

Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color – Violet Storm ($22.00)

This is the first cream eye shadow I've ever used and I liked it. The color Violet Storm only offered a hint of color on my dark skin, but it worked for a simple day look. If I ever purchased another color I'd go for something in a brighter or deeper tone.

Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush ($10.00)

This brush was nice. I used it once to apply the cream eye color but then after that I used my fingers. I prefer using my fingers to apply most creamy products, I just feel I get better application that way.

Are you looking at my lashes? LOOK AT THOSE LASHES! lol

Do you have any favorite Mary Kay products?

10 Empties Challenge: 8/10

Two more products down in the 10 Empties Challenge!

Caress Sheer Twilight Body Wash, Black Orchid and Juniper Oil scent

This has a very perfumey scent if you're into that. I liked it. My sister gave it to me as a Christmas present and it's lasted me until now, about 6 months. Ingredient wise this isn't something I would purchase. If you don't care about ingredients and like a perfumey fragrance that will last past your shower or bath, it's a nice body wash.

Kynx i am Pure monoi de tahiti oil

I won this oil in a giveaway a while back and I REALLY like it. It smells great, and leaves my hair soft and shiny. I wouldn't buy it, because I don't think it does more for my hair than plain coconut oil (and it's main ingredient is coconut oil) but I really did enjoy this oil.

Pinterest Recipes I've Actually Tried Part 2

You can click here for part one. Since Pinterest has updated the images no longer show, but the links will take you through to the pins/recipes.

Spinach Cubes
These are great for anyone out there making green smoothies. It's a very good way to preserve spinach if you buy a whole bag but don't usually use it all before it goes bad.

Lemon and Spice Grilled Shrimp

I made these this past weekend and they came out REALLY tasty. It was too hot to actually stand outside at our grill, so I used our George Foreman grill indoors, but they'd probably be even better put on an actual grill.

Chicken with Peanut Sauce and Sweet Potatoes

This wasn't very much of a win. It didn't have enough flavor for me, and the sweet potatoes came out too mushy for my liking. I don't think I'll be going back to this one again.

Salt and Vinegar Sweet Potato Chips

These were amazing. So good and good for you. Baked in the oven, not fried, NO OIL.  I have a mandolin slicer which allowed me to easily cut the potatoes thinly and evenly and they were super crisp and tasty. I'm going to start experimenting with all kinds of chips.

Sausage and Potatoes

This was really good, but it took FOREVER to make. The potatoes took a very long time cooking on the stove top. I think next time I'll roast the potatoes a little first in the oven, then put them in the skillet to cut down on cook time.

4-Ingredient Peanut Chicken Ramen

I should have known better. I should have known this was too good to be true. This came out WAY too salty. It was just salty peanut butter noodles. I'll have to work on finding another quick peanut noodle recipe.

The Friend Zone

I don't believe in the friend zone. I don't like the concept. I feel like it is unfair to people's romantic wants and needs. There is no friend zone. You are either someone's friend or you're not. You may be someone's friend and you have romantic feelings for them but the other friend doesn't feel the same. While this isn't a comfortable position to be in, why should they feel bad about their feelings? They shouldn't.

I've been on all three sides of the coin... if a coin could have three sides. I've been the friend with one-way romantic feelings for another friend. It sucked. It hurt to see him go through relationships with different women when I had a flame burning for him, but I couldn't force his feelings.

I've been the friend who another friend had feelings for but I just didn't feel the same. This also sucked because I was made to feel bad for not reciprocating feelings for a nice guy. But "nice" doesn't always translate into "romantically attracted to."

I've been the friend who got into a relationship with a friend who I didn't have romantic feelings for because he was nice and everyone said he was good for me. This probably sucked the worst because the relationship was just as one sided as my affections and the friendship could never be reclaimed.

All the scenarios are not ideal. But no one should be made to feel bad about having or not having romantic feelings for someone.

What are your thoughts on "the friend zone?"
