Thankful Thursday


Today I am thankful for: 

  • The Disney station on Pandora Radio. I can't get enough of it. It really makes me happy lol. 
  • Going to Virginia Beach this weekend for my husband's family reunion
  • Shopping with my mom this weekend in Virginia Beach
  • The film shoot I did this week for Billy Vargus's pilot for "Boxing's Ultimate Showdown."

The Regular World vs The Extraordinary World

I was sitting at my desk thinking about how excited I am for rehearsal tonight. I thought, "I love being able to escape from the real world." But then I thought, that's an inaccurate way to put things. My whole life is real.  I enjoy being able to escape the REGULAR world. 

The Regular World includes: 
All the prep work it takes to actually DO my creative endeavours
Anything associated with paying bills
Things that are generally part of my daily routine
Doctor's appointments

So I need something to call my "other" world, the world that's a bit funner. Let's call it my extraordinary world. 

The Extraordinary World includes: 

Playing video games
Reading Blogs/Tumbling/Pinning 

Probably the main difference between the two worlds is things you HAVE to do vs. things you LOVE to do. 

I don't think there is a person out there who gets to have the extraordinary life, without first bolstering their foundation with all the Regular World stuff. It'd be great if we could all live our versions of The Extraordinary Life ALL the time, but it just doesn't work like that. Even the celebrities who we see and think have an Extraordinary Life all the time, we don't see the behind the scenes work that goes into them being able to have the life that we see. 

I believe the goal should be to have and enjoy as much Extraordinary Life as you can, whatever that means for you, even if it's just weeks upon weeks of drinking coffee and readings books. Live that life, and enjoy it, and don't let the Regular World stuff get you down, because you really can't have one without the other.

So I'm in the bed with this guy...

Six years ago today I was hanging in my little studio apartment with a guy. I referred to him as "a cute guy from work who was really nice and liked me." He asked me for the dozenth time to be his girlfriend, and I said yes, almost begrudgingly. I think my answer was "ok, fine." I'm very happy I said yes that day. I'm even more happy that I said yes to being his wife. 

Today is the hubby and I's 6 year dating anniversary. :-D

I really love this man, I have to admit. He makes me happy. We make a great team. He pushes me to be a better person. I think those are three signs of a good life partner. I don't know what I'd do without him.

Find My Friends App

Today the hubby suggested I download the "Find My Friends" app. It's an app that lets you locate your friends by their Apple device (pad, pod, phone) via GPS locator on your Apple device. For us the application is I can see how far away he is when picking me up from work or somewhere else without having to call him while he's on the highway (which he really hates me to do lol). This app makes perfect sense for us. What I can't figure out is what application this would have in any other situation besides parents keeping track of their kids. I suppose it could be good for an insecure significant other who wants to know where their boyfriend or girlfriend is at all times.... but if you need an app to tell you where your lover is, you probably need another lover lol. 

You do have the ability to hide specific locations from your list of friends in the app. I don't see adding any friends on it besides my husband. I already have Foursquare for my social sharing of my location and seeing where friends are. I don't think there is anyone else who literally needs to know the exact address I'm at at all times, or would even care to know lol. 

I will say though, it was pretty cool watching his "dot" on the map make it's way to pick me up today.

Nesheaholic Healthy Eating Tips

I've been making changes slowly but surely to live/eat healthier. One of the most important things to do for me is to have inspiration, which I wrote about here. In that post I shared the online resources that keep me inspired and motivated. 

Here are some things I've been doing to facilitate in eating better: 

  • Going to the grocery store every week. - Grocery shopping every week enables us to have FRESH stuff, fruits and vegetables, always in the house vs. bunches of packaged and processed things that last forever lol.
  • Freezing things. Corn on the cobb, bananas for smoothies, leftovers, etc. Freezing freshly purchased fruits and veggies is better usually than buying the packaged versions often frozen with preservatives and sugars, and freezing leftovers that we know we won't eat in a short times offers quick meal prep in the future.
  • Putting spinach in my smoothies. I've gotten into the habit of making strawberry, banana, spinach, almond milk smoothies. Veggies are the food group many people have trouble getting enough of in their diet. While I have no problem with eating veggies, it's definitely easy to get a serving in with a fruit smoothie.
  • Meal planning. I grocery shop based on the  meals I plan to cook, and I have a white board on the refrigerator with the meals I'll make for the week. This comes in handy with reminding me what to take out to defrost, and having a choice of meals I know are available to make lessens the chances of us going to McDonald's after work by about 95% lol
  • Homemade snack prep. Outside of fresh fruit for snacking, I've been trying to make one homemade snack each week for us to have. The first was homemade trail mix, and this week is homemade granola bars. Making something from scratch you have complete control over what's in it, so it makes me proud to give my hubby something I've prepared to snack on vs. a packaged snack.
  • Water. I'm drinking more of it. I would say my drinks are about 90% water that aren't smoothies.

Vacation Lag

I've been having a mixture of emotions/feelings since coming back from our San Diego vacay

Excited to have my Sunny around me again. I missed her cute doggie face. 

Overwhelmed by the feeling of things being behind in my absence. I actually did a great job of separating myself  from all responsibilities while I was away, which is usually hard for me to do, but as soon as I got back I was cleaning the house, catching up on e-mail correspondence and making grocery lists .

Tired/Oddly Alert. I don't think my body actually caught up with the three hour west coast time delay until the last day, and then after a 8 hour travel day to get back, and a return to east coast time, I'm going through bouts of alertness at strange times of the day, and bouts of sleepiness at strange times of the day. 

Extreme need to get back in the gym. We ate. A LOT. I definitely have some damage to reverse in the gym these coming weeks. We don't get a vacation every day, so I didn't want to limit my fish tacos, mexican food, and churros :-)

What I'm not feeling is "wish I was still on vacation." My husband and I are really blessed to have a great "regular" life, so while vacation was awesome, there's no remorse in getting back to normality.

San Diego - Where We Went, What We Did, Etc.

The hubby and I had an awesome week-long vacation in San Diego! It was our first vacation in about a year and a half, so it was certainly well needed. 

In terms of beaches we got around to Ocean Beach (which is kind of the "hipster" beach), La Jolla which was beautiful and came highly recommended, and Mission Beach, which we only stayed at for a bit but was very nice. 

We also did a Segway tour that took us around the Gaslamp area and Balboa Park. We're beginning to be Segway experts. We did off-road Segwaying in the Bahamas, so this trip was a breeze. Stepping back on the Segway was like riding a bike. 

Balboa Park is GORGEOUS. 

The food I went to San Diego with on my "must have" list was fish tacos and Mexican, and I was not disappointed in either of them. We grabbed fish tacos from a place called Tin Fish and they were awesome. We got Mexican along with our resident favorite San Diegan couple at a place called Casa De Reyes and it was GREAT. AND I got a free basket of churros for checking in on Fourquare ;-)

We also went to the famous San Diego Zoo, which was also awesome. I don't know how many times I said "OMG, it's so cute!" lol It's a huge zoo, we probably got though 1/3 of it. Definitely have to make another trip there. 

There was no shortage of good times and good food. I say it was a vacation well done.
